BOOK COVER CREATION
People DO judge a book by it's cover! PLEASE don't resort to simple text / overdone trendy graphics. You've created a wonderful thing. Have your book cover truly represent that hard work. Collaborate with another artist that appreciates your vision and respects the creative process.
I've been doing photoshop for years. It occurred to me while helping an author, that book covers don't need to be unaffordable or out of your control with a publisher trying to push the creative process quickly with overworked in-house staff. This author had written 2 out of 3 books of a series. The publisher had the first 2 book covers created by different artists and it showed. The writer wasn't entirely happy with how they didn't appear to be from the same series. When she was writing her 3rd book, she hired me to redo the first 2 covers and create the 3rd to match. After discussing her desired look I created the covers with stock photos and added similar lighting and softened backgrounds to meet her vision and unite the series. She felt it perfectly showcased her stories of a teenager, and her love for dogs and horses.
This is the project I am MOST PROUD of, and most DISAPPOINTED about in my career to date. Sadly prior to the 3rd book being published, the publisher closed and the author decided to retire and not pursue the difficult task of finding another publisher for the series.
See how simple, affordable and expressive a book cover can be. Let's get creative!
